Those taking part in the Ballyhoura Blitz on Sunday 1st

Hiya everyone taking part in the Blitz some points to remember

Now only hours away, the Ballyhoura Blitz is fast becoming one of the adventure racing highlights of the summer. This year a totally new race format has been devised by the team at Trailriders Bike Rental with lots of exciting new race terrain added!

The 2010 race format is as follows:

Competitors will have to register for the Ballyhoura Blitz from 9am at the Ballyhoura MTB Trail Head, Greenwood Car Park, Ardpatrick, Co. Limerick.

Competitors will have to drop mountain bikes at a secure bike park in Ballinaboola Car Park, grid ref R582183, from 9am – 11am on the morning of the race.

The race start is at 11.30am at the Ballyhoura MTB Trail Head, Greenwood Car Park, Ardpatrick, Co. Limerick.

The race will start with a 10km run from the Greenwood car park over and across the Ballyhoura Hills to Ballinaboola Car Park, grid ref R582183.

At Ballinaboola Car Park, grid ref R582183, competitors will collect their bikes and cycle some of the very best of the Ballyhoura Single Track Trails taking in sections of the white loop. As with all adventure races parts of the race will get mucky, wet and rough in areas, so prepare for the unexpected and the adventure. The MTB section of the race will finish back at the Ballyhoura MTB Trail Head, Greenwood Car Park, Ardpatrick, Co. Limerick.

 Notes for Competitors

  • As this is an adventure race and not a triathlon competitors are expected to be self sufficient.
  • All gear has to be carried by racers, spare food, parts such as tube, pump, mini first aid kit, appropriate water and a chain repair kit (All of these items may be purchased from Trailriders Mountain Bike Rental at the Ballyhoura MTB Trail Head)
  • Marshalls will be placed along the route but only for safety and advice.
  • Spare water and biking equipment can be taped or left with your bike at the transition so you can run with the basic running clothing.
  • A briefing will be given the morning of the race explaining signage etc.
  • Tea/coffee and soup will be available for competitors post the race at the Ballyhoura MTB Trail Head, Greenwood Car Park, Ardpatrick, Co. Limerick along with a prize giving Ceremony.
  • Check out the website www.ballyhourabeast.com for more details.

There are lots of things to do and places to stay in the region so if you fancy taking a weekend break – log on to www.ballyhouracountry.com for more details.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Ballyhoura for the Blitz. See you on Sunday

Best of Luck !
